These are still better than any all season tire.

These are entry level of course. I have had a set of entry level Arctic Claw TXI which were not too bad. I do recall a comparison test with three other winter tires (2 big brands plus Chinese made Triangle TR777). On a braking test (from 60 or 80 kph/mph???), the Arctic Claws were way behind the frontrunner by over 20 feet. the Arctic Claws were ranked either 3rd or 4th. These were much better than a set of BFG AT T/A KO (mountain snowflake) that had me get stuck 10 times one winter. Hardly stuck with the Arctics. Pretty sure that the Arctics were made in China....don't remember since I don't have the truck anymore.

Weathermate? Weren't these a part of the huge clearout last year / earlier this year when Wal-Mart was getting out of the oil change business?

If it is, we (all of RFD) had no problems buying them up. Still waiting for a "big" snow fall in the GTA to test them out, on my car right now.

Edit: With such little stock, you are likely looking at fake numbers or pure left over. Call ahead before you go.

Yea the online stock checker is useless. It says there's 6 stores in the GTA with stock but every one I've called said they're sold out

Looks like the RFD affiliate linking messed up the link. If I remember correctly Rovelo were a bit better than Weathermate.

bought the weathermates last year on clearance. got to test them out during the big snow storm in toronto 2 weeks ago. was thoroughly impressed. not sure how it will perform on ice yet, and it is a little loud on dry pavement, but i think they are totally worth the money. this is coming from a guy who has used blizzaks and michelins before.

What's the worst thing that could happen? Your tire could fail, resulting in a blow-out? Your car might not stop as quickly as you expect? Frankly, both of those are risks you run every time you get behind the wheel, irrespective of what make and model of tire that you buy.

It's no secret that the majority of goods manufactured in China are inferior, but there's no need to exaggerate the incremental risk that you take.

Can't comment on the Weathermates, but the Rovelos which are also 60% off are great. Thanks to RFD, I bought a set of 16s for my Sonata last Febuary and they performed great for the price. $38 a tire, $180 all in for 4.

I am currently typing this message on my phone as I sit at Timmy's waiting for Gary's Auyomotive to put on the 17s I got yesterday. They're going on a rx8 and cost $40 each, $205 all in.

It's up to you if you want to save some money or not. They're probably not as good as X-ice or Blizzak, but they perform well and are a quarter the cost right now.

Your argument makes no sense . People put on a decent winter tire to help in stopping the car quicker. Otherwise leave on your all seasons

I have the Rovelos. They have the same tread pattern and the General Arctic Altimax and Pirelli Winter Carving tires (used to own both). They also seem to offer similar performance.

I just picked up a new set of 4 yesterday (205/60/16 - last 4 of those at the Agincourt location in Scarborough). I had to pick up a new set of winter rims late last year that came with some older Michelin Xice tires - two of those needed replacing so I replaced them with a pair of Rovelos last year in the same size as the Michelin tires (205/55/16)...they fit my car, but I was going to have to replace the Michelins soon anyway so I decided to just get all 4 in the exact size I'm supposed to use.

What's the point of these "winter" tires then? Why not just use your all-season tires, if these are not good?
Better to buy the best you can afford and try to buy items that have some quality.

Sorry, when it comes to peoples lives I prefer not to use crap on my car. You eliminate the risks as much as possible that's why you buy tires that you can put trust in. I use Michelin's and would never put garbage on my car. Your comments are some of the dumbest comments that I have ever read in my life. "Your car might not stop as quickly as you expect?". WTF, do I want to take that chance?, NO!!. I buy good snow tires because I want my car to stop. Might as well leave my all seasons if I just want to take chances.

If you are placing all your stopping faith in your tires then seems dumb beliefs out weigh dumb comments.
Any way, I buy winter tires because I don't want to get stuck trying to get home from work, getting there safely is dependent mostly on me and how I drive.

I took a chance on a deal at Walmart a couple of winters ago on a winter set of Nexen tires. The brand is oem for Kia since its Korean. I have Hankook and Goodyear on the other cars. There is rarely a day in winter I don't regret the purchase. I'm treating It as a life lesson on how cheap isn't always a good deal. Just yesterday, one of my kids having driven my car half a km, offered how bad the tires were compared to my wife's (Hankooks on a '13 Civic).

I will say they're just Ok in snow but once the temp drops and it's mainly ice, the tires are barely better then all seasons which is to say, crap.

Next time I will pay more.

Just want to chime in and say that the Nexen OEM tires that I have right now (all seasons) are the biggest piece of rubbish. Bulges in several places on several tires, making it dangerous to drive (rubber separating from sidewall), a very common defect with this brand, and they refuse to do anything about it.

google search indicates that rovelo are made by sailun. I guess a bulk rebrand exclusive for walmart.

These appear identical to sailun's winter tire Iceblazer WSL2(non studded) or even the wst1(can be studded)

    http://www.sailuntires.ca/plt/wsl2.html

    no idea who makes weathermate?

seems walmart winter tire sale started on jan 10 2014 last time around. Happening earlier this time around.
